DO YOU EMPLOY THE TRICK OF SUCCESSFUL PLANS? - FOLLOW THROUGH


Making plans time and again is easy from small and personal to big strategic organisational ones. The next step is executing the plans to achieve results.

However because we never operate in isolation even in the execution of personal plans there is no guarantee that our plans will turn out exactly the way we want them simply because we made them perfect.

Our plans in the process of execution may find themselves at cross-purposes with other people's plans or get incorporated into other plans
and as a result they move slower than our preferred rate of execution.
Despite all the impediments to execution real and perceived, we can still forge ahead and see our plans all the way through with success.

This is possible only with the ability to follow through relentlessly on one's plans. At every stage of a project, follow through is needed to ensure timeous completion of smaller tasks which contribute to the overall project.
 Follow through means being present in every situation in order to adapt and swiftly adjust when the need arises because the environment is dynamic and uncertainty is inevitable in instances where your plans get overtaken or queued behind others.

We are all leaders in one way or another as CEO's, managers, coaches, parents and household heads among other capacities which bestow leadership duties upon us. This means the execution of our plans happens through delegation. When we delegate we cede a certain degree of control to those through whom we work because they will inevitably use their own discretion in the process which may differ from ours.

Follow through ability becomes very crucial in such circumstances in order to ensure that whatever is supposed to happen happens despite the use of discretion by whoever we would have delegated particular tasks to.

Follow through means making sure the activities taking place at any point in the process of executing plans are relevant and necessary vis-a-vis the overall strategy. It is the juggernaut quality of an unrelenting,
effective and focused planner.

Unlike following up which is checking on how another party would have executed a particular plan and the resultant outcome, follow through is keeping fingers on the pulse and directly influencing the situation by being involved.

This trick of successful plans is only usable by hands-on people who have intrinsic drive and zeal for success. One ought to be a self-starter and interested in that which has to be implemented otherwise interest gets lost in the face of challenges and hindrances result in the plan falling through and spectacular failure.

In the modern fast paced and dynamic world, the ability to follow through on plans is crucial to the success of plans and strategies in the same manner as decisive management is critical.

We pause at this point and ask ourselves, “What is the success rate of our plans?" If the rate is good then well done to us, however if the rate is poor and unsatisfactory then re-visiting our follow through skills is a
good place to start.
