SERVICE VERSUS SELF SERVING, THE LEADERSHIP GREY AREAS - WHO'S THE JUDGE?

Service versus self serving, the leadership grey areas - who's the judge?
Leading a group of people means being involved in championing the cause and common good they seek
albeit from a position of authority and trust over them. You are enabled and allowed to exercise control and determine the direction of affairs concerning the group.
Resources are placed at your disposal in confidence and in trust that you use them to help move the group's cause forward. Herein begins the grey area, a place where your judgement and integrity is put to test. How do you marshall the resources entrusted to you? Does the group benefit from every transaction you undertake using these resources or it is you and your personal aspirations that gain from them? You are your own judge! No one is guarding the guard because you are the guard, your leadership fabric is tested and ultimately revealed.
Self serving manifests when you subordinate the common good to personal aspiration. The resources are misdirected and eventually abused. When the group you lead has no positive results after allocated resources have been exhausted and spent, something has definitely gone wrong and you the leader ought to look no further than yourself. Are you still in the same economic standing and is your wealth more or less than when you first assumed this role of leadership over these people? If you have gained more wealth and prominence since the beginning of your leadership and the group is worse off than before then you have self served at the expense of the people you led and trod on their aspirations as well as insulted them for vesting authority and trust in you.
You become your own judge, the lines get blurred at some point between service and self serving owing to the power of discretion given to you by those you lead.
When the state of the group is improved and the common cause of the group realised then you have served well and so shall more be entrusted to your judgement, stewardship and authority. Your coast shall increase and true honourable wealth be openly given to you by the people for a good servant is always worthy of his reward but a dishonourable wicked one steals it or takes it by force.
Beware of your grey areas and be vigilant therein lest you emerge a wicked self serving person. There is no better judge and guard over you than yourself.
